Database Errors - My Story
I downloaded this tool to help me keep track of my trades, and to hopefully be able to review it later for analysis on profit and losses.
First thing, I downloaded full package installer and when I went to run the application I got "Database Errors" about not being able to connect.
So, I read over the 12 pages of comments so far... and was a little confused. I tried a buncha things following along as best I could above but I either kept screwing it up, or the information was outdated. Being half smart about these things I really didn't want to be beat by it so I kept at it and three hours later I have a process that works for the layman.
Uninstall whatever you got so far.
Reinstall BUT change the location of the database DURING INSTALL
When running the application select 'Run as Admin'
After everything else I tried, that's what worked for me.
I run Vista Ultimate.
I suspect the problem is Vista trying to get cute and hiding files under the offered folders for security reasons.
Now that I got the application working:
I appreciate the effort that went into it, but I was a little disapointed with the accounting mechanisms. Profit/Loss calculations are really just running totals of purchases and sales so more like net cash flow. If this was offset with OnHand inventory figures it would make more sense.
My suggestion: After the user imports the data, allow for 'Blank all transactions' and allow the user to assign a starting inventory value for whatever they have, then every item that is purchased is added to inventory at that value and sold will generate a profit of selling price - average purchase price.
Anyway, I like what's there, but the profit figures are a bit off, but I'll allow the system to accumulate data for a longer period of time and hopefully it will be more useful to me over time.

(oh, annother suggestion - since it is somewhat unclear how to actually get it up and running once started, you might want to move the items that need to be setup to a setup page with Step1, Step2, Step3 ect where they get API, then update account API, then character, ect).
